Celebrating The National Year of Reading at Newcastle Library
Love your Library this February – Our Valentine’s invite to you.
Come along and join in the fun at Newcastle library this February half-term. There are events for children, families and adults as part of our celebration of The National Year of Reading 2026. We are looking forward to welcoming new and existing customers to experience a range of author, storytelling, poetry, family and craft events and to share the joy of books and reading.
Monday 16th February
10:30am – Maria Credali (adults) – Join master Storyteller Maria as she shares stories from her ‘Fireside Tales’ collection. Not to be missed. FREE but BOOKING ESSENTIAL flyer
2:00pm - Maria Credali (family) – Maria will share stories from her ‘Once Upon a Time’ collection, followed by a craft activity. Perfect for ages 5+. FREE but BOOKING ESSENTIAL flyer
Tuesday 17th February
10:30am – Roselyn Barks – Roselyn, author and artist, will read from her lovely story ‘Fox Finds Love’ and then she will offer a craft activity based upon the story. Ages 6+ although slightly younger siblings are welcome. FREE but BOOKING ESSENTIAL flyer
Wednesday 18th February
11:00am – A Feast of Authors – Three terrific authors, Priscilla Masters, Emma Woodhouse and Zara Maqbool will chat about their books, writing style and inspirations. FREE but BOOKING ESSENTIAL flyer
2:00pm – A Pocketful of Poets – Join Emma Purshouse, Steve Pottinger and Nick Degg for an entertaining session of poems from three clever wordsmiths! FREE but BOOKING ESSENTIAL flyer
Thursday 19th February
11:00am and again at 2:00pm – Mary Poppins – Join the library staff and let’s go and fly a kite and celebrate one of the most famous children’s stories ever told. We’ll be transforming our children’s library into a magical space where a spoonful of sugar will take you on a journey of a lifetime. Ages 5+ FREE but BOOKING ESSENTIAL
Friday 20th February
11:00am - Action Songs & An Interactive Story- Suitable for ages 0 -11 years old, drop-in session and booking is not required flyer
2:00pm – The Pie Piper of Hamelin - We’ll bring you a Storytime version of this classic folk tale, but we promise we will be returning your children to you at the end of the session! 😊 Strictly no rats allowed! All ages. FREE but BOOKING ESSENTIAL
Saturday 21st February
11:00am - Musical Storytime with the library Staff. Join the library staff and share some action songs and an interactive story session. Get practicing! Ages 0-11 years. FREE Drop-in event
