The Ultimate Guide to Pledge Week at Sir Thomas Boughey Academy

At Sir Thomas Boughey Academy, we want to help every single child grow their confidence and unlock their personal potential. A huge part of how we do this is through our annual Pledge Week, which runs from Monday 13th July to Friday 17th July.

This action-packed week gives our students the chance to experience new environments, build life skills, and fulfill our school pledges. We are working closely with the Windsor Academy Trust to make this week safe, rewarding, and full of joy. Here is the complete guide to what each year group will be doing during this unforgettable week.

Year 7: Forest Trails and the Seaside

Our youngest students will start their week with a mix of nature and tradition. On Monday 13th July, Year 7 will travel to Delamere Forest. They will learn how to build shelters in the woods, enjoy a forest walk, and challenge themselves on the Go Ape high-ropes course. This is a fantastic way for students to build resilience and work together.

On Tuesday 14th July, the adventure moves to the coast. The group will visit Llandudno, a famous Victorian seaside town. This trip fulfills one of our important school pledges, which is ensuring that students get to visit the sea during their time with us.

Years 8 and 9: History, Hiking and Watersports

Our Year 8 and Year 9 students have a phenomenal schedule that balances culture with outdoor adventure. On Monday, Year 8 students travel to Manchester to dive into history and science at the Imperial War Museum North and the Science and Industry Museum, and Year 9 take on a rewarding hike through Dovedale in the stunning Peak District National Park.

The outdoor fun keeps going on Tuesday. Students will either enjoy a scenic countryside hike around Rudyard Lake or make a splash at the Tittesworth Watersports Centre. At the watersports centre, students will work in teams to build their own rafts and try canoeing. These trips are a wonderful way for our students to practice being collaborative and communicating clearly.

Year 10: Heritage and Culture

Pledge Week is a magnificent time for our older students to show their independence and curiosity. On Monday 13th July, the group will head out to Hawkesworth Follies. This unique trip involves scenic hikes, exploring local caves, and discovering historic monuments.

On Tuesday 14th July, the focus shifts to culture and art. Year 10 will travel to Manchester to visit both the Imperial War Museum North and the Manchester Gallery. Experiencing these spaces helps our students complete their school pledge to visit important theatres and museums before they finish secondary school.

The Whole School: Sports Day and Celebrations

From Wednesday onwards, the entire school community comes together back on campus for three days of team spirit and celebration.

• Wednesday 15th July: Our traditional Sports Day, where students compete in track and field events to earn points for their houses.

• Thursday 16th July: Competition Day, featuring fun team games and activities accessible to everyone.

• Friday 17th July: Bee Active join us for team games and our final celebration assembly, where we look back at the highlights of the week and celebrate the collective achievements of our fantastic students and staff.
