Staffordshire County Council CDOP Newsletter

We would like to draw families’ attention to an important Child Death Prevention Newsletter from the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP), which focuses on drowning prevention.

Tragically, local reviews have identified a number of child deaths linked to drowning. This highlights just how important it is to raise awareness with both children and families, particularly as we move into the warmer months.

The newsletter shares key safety guidance, including:

• The hidden dangers of open water such as rivers, canals and quarries
• The increased risks associated with warmer weather
• Practical advice on supervising children around water
• Simple but vital safety tips for water in the home and garden

It also reminds us that drowning can happen quickly and quietly, and that even small amounts of water can pose a serious risk.
