Students at Sir Thomas Boughey Academy in Newcastle under Lyme Celebrate a Strong Set of GCSE Results

22nd August 2024

Students at Sir Thomas Boughey Academy are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE results.

After much hard work studying and preparing, students at the school, which joined Windsor Academy Trust in January, are collecting a set of strong GCSE results and getting ready to take their next steps in their educational journey.

Of particular note was the increase in students gaining the highest 7, 8 and 9 grades in mathematics. In physics and RE, outcomes have increased by a full grade compared to Summer 2023.

We are delighted that nearly a third of students taking Health and Social Care gained the top grades and students’ outcomes in Hospitality and Catering have increased by one grade compared to Summer 2023.

Computer science was selected by a number of students as an additional subject, and studied outside of school hours. Those students achieved two grades above national expectations, which is to be celebrated.

While all pupils have done incredibly well, there are some standout individual achievements. Lyla T achieved two grades above her targets, securing an average grade of 7.9. Likewise, Lucas H achieved an average grade 7.7. Joe J achieved an average grade of 7.2, which is over a grade above his targets. Huge congratulations to students for their outstanding performance.

Sir Thomas Boughey Academy students are now looking forward to progressing onto their chosen further education institutions.

Collecting GCSE results today, students said:
Kyle Gascoigne Jones, “I'm really happy with my results and can't wait to start Newcastle College to study A Levels in Maths, Physics and Geography!”

Lyla Toplass, “I'm delighted with my results and am excited to start my Dancing Scholarship at Stockout College. In the future, I am interested in studying English and Film at University.”

Adam Mason, “I'm looking forward to studying Maths, Politics and Physics A Levels at NSCG Stafford College.”

Joe Jones, “I’m so happy with my results and will be studying Law, Psychology and English Literature at Cheshire College. My future aim is to relocate and get a job in law.”

Jane Hingley, Headteacher at Sir Thomas Boughey Academy, said:
The class of 2024 have risen to the challenge of the GCSE examinations and due to their hard work and commitment, fully deserve their excellent results. We want to thank our families for their ongoing support and also our staff team who have worked tirelessly with these students to help them on their road to success.

“Although the Class of 2024 had some of their most formative years in secondary school disrupted by the pandemic, they have stepped up to full GCSE courses, graded at 2019 standards. We are so proud of everything that they have achieved, including some fantastic individual results. I wish the Class of 2024 all the best in their future endeavours.”

Dawn Haywood, Chief Executive Officer at Windsor Academy Trust, said:
“I am delighted to see students from across the Windsor Academy Trust family achieve such strong results in their GCSEs today. I couldn’t be prouder of our students and our staff who have worked so hard for these successes.”
