Pupil Premium

What is the Pupil Premium Grant?

The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding provided to schools to help support disadvantaged students and close the gap between them and their peers in terms of attainment and progress. At Sir Thomas Boughey, we use this funding to ensure every student—regardless of background—has the opportunity to achieve highly and thrive.

Our Purpose

The aim of our Pupil Premium strategy is to improve the attainment and progress of students eligible for the Pupil Premium, both in comparison to non‑eligible students within school and to national benchmarks. Our approach is informed by research from the Education Endowment Foundation, which highlights the strong impact of:

  • developing metacognitive strategies,
  • high‑quality feedback, and
  • targeted pastoral interventions.

Our Commitment to Students

At Sir Thomas Boughey, no student should be denied the right to maximise their academic and personal potential. We use the Pupil Premium to remove barriers to learning, raise aspirations, and provide greater opportunities for disadvantaged students.

Some of the barriers we work actively to overcome include:

  • low prior attainment,
  • limited access to books and reading materials,
  • limited access to technology,
  • lack of essential learning resources (e.g. calculators),
  • financial barriers to enrichment opportunities such as trips and visits.

Aim of the Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium seeks to:

  • increase social mobility,
  • reduce the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils nationally,
  • ensure disadvantaged pupils receive the targeted support they need to succeed.

To ensure funding is used effectively, Sir Thomas Boughey produces an annual Pupil Premium Strategy outlining how the budget will be allocated to significantly improve the achievement and life chances of disadvantaged students. This plan directly focuses on narrowing the gap between these students and their peers both in school and nationally.

This document contains our Pupil Premium Strategy from 2024 to 2027 and covers a detailed plan of actions and spend for the academic year 2025 – 2026, in addition to the impact of our Pupil Premium spend for the academic year 2024 – 2025.
